Musician Bio
Scott Barkan is a professional guitarist, composer and teacher living and working in the New York area.
At 30 years old, Scott has been playing for nearly two decades, and working as a professional for nearly the entire time. A quick study on the instrument, Scott was already gigging regularly by the tender age of 13. He found himself doing his first session work at 16, and landing his first national tour at 18.
Scott was the only guitarist accepted into his freshman class at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, but found the environment a bit too stuffy and quickly transferred to the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. There, he began to find his unique voice as a jazz guitarist, studying with legends Wayne Krantz and Kermit Driscoll.
After graduating, Scott quickly began establishing himself on the downtown New York jazz scene, along with his trio, "Barky", as well as applying his skills as a guitarist to an array of diverse projects.
The last several years have found Scott touring and recording relentlessly throughout the US and abroad, lending his signature sound to everything from rock/pop bands and soulful songwriters, to hard hitting rockers, instrumental jazz/fusion outfits and even bluegrass pickers.
Scott's guitar playing and songwriting has been featured in film and television, including the hit shows "The Real World", "The Hills", "Human Giant", "Living with Lohan", "Keeping up with the Kardashians", "Parental Control" and "SKI Patrol". In addition, Scott recently wrote the title track for the independent feature film "See Dick Run", starring Kel Mitchell.
