Musician Bio

Greg Hornby began playing guitar at the age of 13 and, right away, it became apparent that Greg had a high aptitude and strong passion for the instrument. At the age of 17, Greg found himself auditioning for The University of Michiganﾒs School of Music, Theatre and Dance. It was here that he would spend four productive and memorable years earning his undergraduate degree. During this time, Greg studied and performed with jazz legends Bob Hurst and Geri Allen. Greg also represented the University with the Creative Arts Orchestra at the second annual International Society for Improvised Music (ISIM) conference at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Greg ultimately received a degree in Jazz Studies and Improvisation with Highest Honors from the University of Michigan.

Greg has accumuldated several years of professional playing and teaching experience. Greg continues to teach privately and has taught for the National Guitar Workshopﾒs DayJams Rock Music Camp for kids.

Some of Gregﾒs favorite musicians and groups include: Wes Montgomery, The Rolling Stones, The Mars Volta, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Jeff Parker, Tortoise, Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, Steely Dan, The Roots, Jim Hall, Wilco, Fiona Apple, Brad Mehldau, Charles Mingus, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Lee Konitz, Charlie Christian, Chet Baker, Ornette Coleman, The Beatles, Bjork, and Bill Evans, just to name a few (or several!). These influences have lead Greg to develop his own, very unique jazz/rock hybrid style.
