Musician Bio

André Netto is a guitar player, recording & mixing Engineer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He has been playing the guitar for 26 years. André started taking classical guitar lessons when he was 11, and picked up the electric guitar around the age of 13. After seeing a talented local guitarist at age 14, he got inspired and started taking lessons from him during the year of 1987. Through that connection he became aware of many guitar greats like Eddie Van Halen, George Benson and Larry Carlton, just to name a few.

Following that experience, André started to learn everything by himself through books and magazines, but mostly by playing along with his favorite records, which eventually lead him to write his own guitar method for teaching. From 1991 to 1993, he studied functional & advanced harmony and ear training at Rio Música School of Music, a renowned music school in Rio. Around 1993, often frustrated with the recorded tone of his guitar at several studio sessions, he started to get into audio recording and production. An initial hobby that lead to the opening of a professional project studio in 1994. From that time to 2001, he recorded, mixed and co-produced hundreds of projects ranging from friend's demos to major label ones, most of the time also playing guitar on his client's recordings. André also taught guitar from his home for many years and used to have an average of 20-25 students per week.

In 1996, after finishing Audio Institute of America's recording program as a Honor Graduate, André was invited by AIA's CEO to become the Director of Education in Brazil for that organization. During that time, he also wrote 2 books on audio recording and mixing.

As a musician, André led his own rock/fusion instrumental trio for about 10 years in Brazil, played as a sideman for several local artists and also played in a couple cover bands. Since moving to NYC in 2001, he has worked with several bands and artists such as Virgil Segal, Lem Springsteen (Ultra Nate), Sumeet, Toshi Kubota, Angie Stone (Lenny Kravitz), Shyndigg, Mario Rodriguez (Al di Meola, Gato Barbieri) and also free lanced at a few recording studios. Besides working for UWT, he's been working hard at the studio with his new jazz/pop band.
