An Open Source Solution

UWT uses almost exclusively Open Source technologies to power its solution. This means that the underlying technology behind UWT is created and maintained by communities of individuals. UWT believes in Open Source technology and is dedicated to giving back to the community that has helped it along the way.

But More Specifically,

We utilize a LAMP solution stack that is primarily made up of the following...

• The Perl Catalyst Framework All of our backend code is written in Perl, most of which fits within the Catalyst Web Framework
• MySQL We rely on a MySQL database to hold all of our application data.
• Apache Web Server Our Apache web server handles all of our web transactions.
• Ubuntu Linux All of our servers run Ubuntu (it's a great desktop OS as well).
• DBIx::Class An amazing and well supported Perl ORM
• Prototype JS A great javascript library, that makes writing js actually enjoyable.

So the point is...

The point is that we want to give credit where credit is due, and the bottom line is that the web would not be what it is today without Open Source software. Without it, small startup companies like ourselves would not be able to build safe, reliable, and robust applications on shoe string budgets. Open Source is the work horse that allows small companies and individuals to be started with little to no funding. This fosters innovation, and provides loads of cool new products to everyone.
