Tech Intern Wanted by Innovative Online Music Start-Up (Summer / Part Time / New York City)

BUSINESS OVERVIEW:

United We Tab, Inc. is committed to changing the way guitarists utilize guitar tablature through the creation of new media and interactive technologies. The company’s dynamic music site, UnitedWeTab.com, allows musicians to interact with and learn from guitar tablature through the combination of guitar videos, viewing software and licensed tab. The company was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in New York, NY.

INTERNSHIP HIGHLIGHTS:

Responsibilities:

  • Building UWT's online profile;
  • Creating and maintaining application helper scripts (Bash, Perl);
  • Finding and documenting application bugs;
  • Fixing application bugs, and documenting those fixes; and
  • Data cleansing and updating.

Compensation:

This is an unpaid internship, but well-qualified interns will earn stock options. If desired and approved by your school, class credits will also be awarded.

Time Commitment:

10-20 hours per week, working in Manhattan (although there is potential for full time work as well as working from home most of the week).

Duration:

June 2010 – August 2010.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

United We Tab is looking for responsible, motivated computer science students who have strong coding skills, and are interested in working in a startup environment. You must be able to work in Manhattan and commit at least 10-20 hours per week. The key requirements for this internship include:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above;
  • Strong coding background, must be comfortable with OO programming;
  • Basic knowledge of web application structure;
  • A comfortable understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
  • Basic understanding of SQL and DB technologies; and
  • A strong interest or background in music.
Knowledge of the following are a plus:
  • Perl (specifically the Catalyst Web Framework);
  • MySQL;
  • Apache Web Server;
  • Linux;
  • Bash scripting; and
  • Understanding of ORM.
